Welcome to

Gannet Nets

It is our goal to improve the fishing industry through thoughtful innovation and data-driven design, creating and delivering superior gear, along with expertise and support for our customers

Without the feedback we get from the fisherman and manufactures we work with, continual improvement of our fishing systems would not be what it is today; collaboration on products, data, and fishing components makes it possible for us to keep innovating and improving upon the current fishing systems

Below you will find the different components of a successful fishing system

By clicking through each of the numbered sections, you’ll find a detailed drawing of that specific component, and the products involved with making that part of the fishing system successful.

All of the drawings are done by Tom Crestodina

I think of a successful fishing operation as a good ‘fishing system’

The system involves the captain, the crew, the vessel, the electronics, the power (hydraulics), the deck equipment, and the net

There is no single right way to fish a purse seine. I have seen many different techniques of setting, pursing and hauling a seine net.

Some techniques I have seen make sense to me, others do not. My involvement will result in a good analysis and discussion of your techniques and how they may impact the efficiency of your system.

Consulting can be anything from helping with the design of a seine, or choice of purse-line and/or purse rings, or boom winch, or power-block, or certain wheelhouse electronics. It could also include going on a few days fishing trip to observe an existing fishing system in use, and determine where I think improvements can be made.

David is currently working with fishermen in Alaska, West Coast US, East Coast US, Gulf of Mexico, Sea of Cortez, Cornwall, UK, Australia and Peru

With access to products and materials from manufacturers all over the world, Gannet Nets is uniquely positioned to be able to offer some of the most advanced net designs and products available today

Knotless UHMWPE

  • Raschel style knotless is generally less expensive than knotted netting, because it is faster to produce than knotted netting.

Floating Rings

  • These rings come in various sizes, & can be used on the bunt breastline rings, corkline cowboy line rings, in addition to purseline rings.

These rings are made from UHMWPE, not re processed HMWPE which is commonly found in the fishing industry (guard rails, cutting boards) but virgin highest grade UHMWPE extruded in the USA.

Gannet Braid

  • Gannet Braid. Standard lay. Black and White. An awesome drum winch purseline, with a great lay and so easy to splice!

The Black and white construction is linear so it is immediately obvious if you are introducing a twist into the line. It also works on a capstan, though you may need an extra wrap or two as it so slippery.
